The Mount Washington Elementary
School mural was the brainchild of two mothers, each of whom had a child
attending the school. They decided that a cement block wall bordering
a small outdoor sitting area was the ideal place for a mosaic mural
featuring the artistic talents of students at the school.
The L-shaped (two partitioned) wall also ran alongside a
driveway which led down to the lunch pavillion and outdoor play area.
A student/parent workshop was arranged using donated tiles from local businesses.
Didier prepared 75 various shapes of cement board cut-outs and the children
used the broken tile provided to fabricate their art pieces.
These pieces were then installed by Didier along both partitions of the L-shaped
wall and then the background was installed directly by Catherine, Susan and
parent volunteers. (Only one wall is shown here).
